“Pilates is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally performing our many daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure” - Joseph Pilates

Pilates and your Body
Get ready for an empowering mind and body experience! Each exercise in the Pilates repertoire emphasizes a biomechanically proper pelvic and neutral spine alignment, thus alleviating negative postures which can cause injury. Injury can occur as a weaker muscle gets weaker and a stronger muscle gets stronger. This imbalance can lead to injuries such as muscle tears, tendinitis, and low back pain. Pilates trains the body as a whole and creates balance without over or under training any one muscle group. This balance can be accentuated though strengthening the “ powerhouse” or core. The core pertains to the muscles that support your spine and pelvis with emphasis on your abdominal muscles. The stronger your core and the better your posture, the less likely you are to create stress within your body and develop injury. Pilates is appropriate for all body types, ages and fitness levels. Each exercise on the equipment can be modified to train a beginner or challenge a professional.
Pilates and your Mind
Refresh and rejuvenate your mind as find flow, rhythm, and harmony with each breath while performing Pilates. Pilates encompasses breath into all the exercises to increase oxygen intake and improve blood flow to muscle groups for maximal muscle strengthening. Breathing also creates focus and mindfulness to the Pilates repertoire. You gain an awareness of how your body is moving through space. This awareness creates a sense of precise posture, which you can incorporate into everyday life. Incorporating breathing with Pilates can also help reduce stress and ease muscle tension.
